Kidsafe UK is a registered charity (1105179) established in Cumbria and delivers preventative child protection/safeguarding programmes to primary school children alongside supporting workshops for their parents/carers. The primary purpose of the Kidsafe UK Children’s programme is to equip participating children with simple, yet effective skills to keep themselves safe from the various forms of abuse without shattering their innocence. The Children’s programme is delivered in the classroom setting with active participation from class teachers. The course material is always age-appropriate with key messages delivered through the use of a variety of media including song, rhyme and action, puppetry, group discussions and worksheets.

Kidsafe UK Aims
1. To protect children from suffering or the likelihood of suffering physical, sexual or emotional abuse by the encouragement and promotion of any methods to help safeguard and promote the welfare of such children.
2. To advance the education of children, parents/carers and teachers in all aspects of child abuse, in particular understanding abuse in its many forms, its effects and how to prevent such neglect, cruelty or abuse.

Val Webb – Kidsafe Programme Manager

Val is a qualified Self Defence Personal Safety Tutor she is also qualified to both train and tutor other self defence tutors, she is a qualified Youth and Community Worker having worked for Lancashire County Council for ten years delivering a variety of courses to young people and adults which included working with a variety of agencies across Lancashire including the Police, Youth Offending and Young People Leaving Care Scheme.

Val is one of the original co-authors of the Kidsafe programme and brought the programme to Cumbria in 2002. Val has developed the programme over the years to address all child protection/safeguarding issues. The Kidsafe programme has gone from strength to strength in the Cumbria area with the programme being delivered to 1000’s of primary aged children and is now recognised as one of the leading charities across Cumbria in providing preventative services to both children and parents/carers in the field of child protection/safeguarding concepts.

Val has co written a training package to be able to train teachers to deliver the programme into their own school. It has always been a priority for Val to be able to give every child in Cumbria an opportunity to have the Kidsafe programme and sees the Training for Tutors initiatives a way of achieving this.

Jude Walker – Kidsafe Programme Co-ordinator

For 16 years Jude was employed by the private sector undertaking administrative and accountancy roles including P.A. to a Managing Director and Office Manager for a major work wear manufacturer. During this time Jude became a volunteer in a variety of areas including being a worker for Lancashire County Council Young Women’s Group and a leader in a Church Boy’s Brigade group.

She originally became involved in the Kidsafe programme as an administrative volunteer gradually becoming more active in all aspects of the programme; she firstly went through in-depth training to be able to deliver the programme including child protection/safeguarding training and group work skills for both children and adults.

Jude has now been delivering the Kidsafe programme as well as a variety of workshops including: - Computer/Internet Safety and Cyber Bullying Prevention workshops to 1000’s of children/young people across Cumbria and Lancashire since 2002. Jude is the co-author of the Training for Tutors Initiative.

Kidsafe Management Committee Members
Kidsafe has a dedicated team of management committee members who meet on a regular basis to ensure the smooth and effective running of Kidsafe.

The committee has a variety of skills between which enhance the overall success of Kidsafe: - Committee members include head teachers, and members who have skills in accountancy, development, fundraising and Health & Safety.
