- Why children do not tell of abuse
- How will a child be feeling if they have been abused?
- What to do if a child discloses abuse - simple do's and don'ts
- What support should we be offered after referring a disclosure?
- Looking at your own groups child protection policy and procedures
- What are your responsibilities for child protection?
- Understanding responsibilities for child protection in your group/workplace
- Disclosure of criminal background (D.C.B's why are they needed?)
- Case studies
- Keeping ourselves safe whilst working with children - avoiding situations which can potentially lead to allegations of abuse
The whole issue of child protection is not only scary, but for most people it's an issue that is rather not thought about. Over the last few years society as a whole has become more aware of the devastating effects that child abuse can have on individuals, families and communities. Regulations and procedures are in place to help keep children safe for e.g., “Every Child Matters” a framework established after the Victoria Climbie case.
Unfortunately this has put added pressure on every day people who have contact with children. Fear and worry are attached to child protection and to children's disclosures of abuse, for example; -
- What if a child discloses and I get it wrong or say the wrong thing?
- What exactly is my responsibility?
- How do I react?
If these are fears you experience then we encourage you to participate in the one-day workshop. The workshop will help enable you to understand what is a sensitive and complex issue.
