Training For Tutors
Kidsafe has developed its services and is now in the position to offer in-depth training to teachers so they can deliver the full programme into their own schools. The training programme was successfully piloted in January 2011 at St Thomas’s Sure Start Children’s Centre in Kendal.
The aim of Training for Tutors is to give all children the opportunity to take part in the Kidsafe Child Protection/Safeguarding Children programme and enabling participating schools to become Kidsafe Registered Schools.
This will not only benefit the school by providing evidence for Ofsted it will also show the commitment the school has to child protection/safeguarding their own children.

Training for Tutors - Annual Refresher Training Day
The Kidsafe Training for Tutors initiative was piloted 12 months ago with the aim of training a member of school staff so they can deliver the Kidsafe Child Protection/Safeguarding programme to Primary School pupils in their school on an annual basis.
Each school signed up to the initiative becomes a Kidsafe Registered School. Part of the commitment schools make to the initiative is to agree that the Kidsafe trained member of staff attends an annual one day refresher training course to keep their skills updated and for the school to maintain their Kidsafe Registered School status.
We have just piloted our first annual refresher training day where 100% of schools that were involved in the pilot course re-registered and all the tutors attended the day, this bodes well for the long-term sustainability of Kidsafe and ensures that many more children across Cumbria will be taught the skills necessary to keep themselves safe from all forms of abuse and harm.
At present we have 33 Kidsafe tutors trained in the County with a further 54 due to undertake the three day training course over the next six months.
The Training for Tutor initiative has been funded through a grant from the Northern Rock Foundation with support from the Sir John Fisher Foundation, Sellafield, BAE Give as you Earn, Truemark Trust and the CN Group.
